On 7 December, H.M. Queen Mathilde visited chocolatier Belvas in Hainaut. The Shift helped the Palace to organise a new round-table discussion around sustainable development with the Queen, Deputy Prime Minister Alexander De Croo and ten Belgian entrepreneurs. They exchanged thoughts on the important role of entrepreneurs in promoting the Sustainable Development Goals.
H.M. Queen Mathilde was appointed by the UN as one of the international SDG Advocates. In this capacity, she promotes the SDGs or Sustainable Development Goals worldwide, like entrepreneur Paul Polman and popstar Shakira.
On 7 December, we arranged for the Queen to meet ten business leaders who are contributing to the SDGs, during a visit to Belvas:
- Thierry Noesen (Belvas)
- Thomas Leysen (Umicore)
- Alain Bernard (DEME)
- Vincent Decuyper (Solvay)
- Alex Houtart (Impctz)
- Hein Deprez (Greenyard)
- Olivier de Wasseige (UWE)
- Marc du Bois (Spadel)
- Lisa Bonadonna (GSK)
- Hinde Boulbayem (Sumy)
Each entrepreneur explained briefly why and how they are helping to implement and promote the UN's 2030 Agenda through their business operations. They then exchanged thoughts on the importance of entrepreneurship for sustainable development.
Second round-table discussion in connection with SDGs
The meeting at Belvas was the second round-table discussion with SDG Advocate H.M. Queen Mathilde and Belgian entrepreneurs. At the beginning of June, the Palace asked us to arrange a meeting between Queen Mathilde, Deputy Prime Minister Alexander De Croo and business leaders for the first time at Vyncke in Harelebeke.
